Navigating Through Classifications

๐Ÿ“˜

Learning Objectives

  • Understand where classifications are located
  • Learn how classifications work
  • Interact with classifications
  • Access product and asset sheets

Classification: Overview

A classification is a hierarchical system of categories and subcategories that organizes all product and assets information.

A classification node functions like a folder within a hierarchy, where product and assets sheets are stored. In this course, remember:

  • Node = Folder
  • Sub-node = Sub-folder

Classification: Navigation

Although classification structures have unique characteristics, they can be compared to folders in your computer's file explorer. Navigate through classifications and sub-classifications to access product and assets sheets.

To access classifications, go to the Data page in the Documents section for product sheets and the Assets section for asset sheets.

๐Ÿ“˜

Important Note

A classification node cannot contain both product (or assets) and sub-nodes. A classification node contains either products (or assets) sheets or sub-classification nodes.

Consequently, product and asset sheets are always located at the lowest level of the classification hierarchy.

In the left panel, you can expand the classification. Click on a classification node to display its contents.

Use the breadcrumb trail to navigate back to higher-level classification nodes.

๐Ÿ“˜

Important Note

Navigation within classifications is done manually via the side panel and breadcrumb trail. There is no search engine available on these pages. To search for a classification, use the advanced search covered previously.

Classification: Actions

Once you have reached and selected a classification node:

  • Click on the display buttons to change how elements are presented within a classification node, switching between list and thumbnail views, and customizing columns.
  • Click on the pencil icon at the top of the right window to edit the name and attributes of the classification node.
  • Click on the โ€œ+ Addโ€ button to create a new classification node or a new product (or asset) sheet.
  • Hover over and click on the pencil icon of a thumbnail to directly access the product or asset sheet.

Summary

  • Definition of Classification: A hierarchical system of categories for organizing product and asset sheets. A classification node is equivalent to a folder.
  • Navigation: Similar to a file explorer. Access via the Data page, Documents (product sheets), or assets.
  • Important Note: A node contains either sheets (product or assets) or sub-nodes, never both.
  • Manual Navigation: No direct search within classifications, navigation is done via the breadcrumb trail.
  • Available Actions:
    • Modify the display,
    • Rename or add nodes,
    • Create/modify product or assets sheets,
    • Add sub-classification nodes.
